As a parent of two young children currently having one attending Samford State School, I am deeply concerned about their future educational journey. My eldest will need to transition to a highschool in six years and it it is a milestone that should be filled with excitement and hope. However, without a public local high school in the Samford Valley area, this transition poses significant challenges and concerns.

Currently, the closest high schools are 30-40 minutes away, meaning our children and their peers will be split up and sent to different schools, far from the community where they have forged strong friendships. This separation can cause stress and confusion during a crucial period in their lives. As parents, we all want the best for our children, including the ability to attend a high school close to home where they feel secure and supported.

Building a new high school in Samford Valley would not only provide a safe and familiar environment for our children, but it would also benefit the community as a whole, fostering a sense of unity and continuity. Parents would have peace of mind knowing their children can easily commute to school and be part of a supportive network of friends and neighbors. Having a high school in Samford will reduce pressure for neighboring high schools and to allow them to have fewer students in the classrooms.

The demand for a local high school is clear. Samford Valley is a growing community with an increasing number of families settling down, seeking educational stability for their children. According to recent community surveys, a significant percentage of parents have expressed the necessity of a closer high school to accommodate this growing population. A new high school would serve hundreds of students and significantly reduce travel times, help with traffic, enhancing the overall well-being and educational experience of our children.

We urge local education authorities, government officials, and community leaders to recognize this pressing need and take immediate action towards planning and building a high school in Samford Valley. A school in our community will ensure that our children have the opportunity to grow and learn within an environment that supports their academic and social development.
