Many pedestrians walk along the footpath on the eastern side of Yarra St in South Yarra every day. Hundreds of people are forced into a single narrow footpath riddled with obstacles and frequently blocked by rubbish bins and cars exiting and entering driveways, all while the vast majority of the road space is dedicated to motor vehicles.

Each day many pedestrians choose to walk on the road anyway to avoid the congested narrow footpath which cannot accommodate the level of foot traffic it receives especially before and after school times. This is unsafe for both pedestrians and car drivers and one day someone is going to be hit walking on the road.

We are calling on Stonnington City Council to construct a footpath on the west side of Yarra St, adjacent to South Yarra Station. This will improve safety for pedestrians and road users, reduce congestion and improve the public realm.
