The issue

Australia and New Zealand deserve a world-class Disney theme park of their own. Currently, every Disney park in the world is located in the Northern Hemisphere, with the closest Disney destinations more than 12 hours away for millions of Australians and New Zealanders.

For Australians, visiting a Disney park is not a simple family holiday. It is an expensive international trip that many people may only experience once in their lives, if at all. Despite Disney parks existing across North America, Europe, and Asia, the entire Southern Hemisphere has been overlooked.

Disney currently operates 12 theme parks around the world, yet none exist in Australia or anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia is the perfect location for the first Southern Hemisphere Disney resort due to its strong tourism industry, international accessibility, warm climate, and long-standing love of Disney entertainment.

We call on Disney and relevant Australian governments to explore the construction of a new Disneyland Resort in either New South Wales or Queensland. Both states have strong tourism infrastructure, international airports, and proven theme park industries, making them ideal candidates for a project of this scale. While both states already have established theme parks, a Disney resort would operate on an entirely different global level and complement, not replace, existing attractions.

This resort should combine the best elements of Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, featuring iconic attractions and lands such as:

- Galaxy’s Edge

- Avengers Campus

- TRON Lightcycle Run

- Haunted Mansion

- Pirates of the Caribbean

- Space Mountain

Alongside these classic attractions, the resort could also introduce original experiences unique to Australia.

A Disney resort in Australia would become a major international tourism destination for the Asia-Pacific region, create thousands of jobs, strengthen local economies, and finally give Australians and New Zealanders access to Disney experiences without the enormous travel costs and distance currently required.

It is time for Disney to expand into the Southern Hemisphere and Australia is the obvious choice.
