The Issue

Fossil Falls Park is a well-loved community space that draws many families and children, yet there is currently no safe or accessible way to cross the street without walking a significant distance to the nearest traffic light. This situation poses a significant risk to pedestrians, particularly young children and families who frequent the park for recreational activities.

Unfortunately, this area has become increasingly dangerous: drivers often speed through in an attempt to bypass traffic, while on-street parking and the natural curve of the road make it difficult for both pedestrians and drivers to see one another. This lack of visibility paired with high driving speeds is a recipe for disaster, making it imperative to take swift action to prevent potential accidents.

A practical and effective solution is to build a crosswalk at Dinosaur Crossing Drive, right by Fossil Falls Park. Such an addition would not only make it safer for pedestrians to access the park but also encourage more community members to enjoy this beautiful space without fearing for their safety. Installing clear signage and pedestrian lights could further ensure that drivers are aware of the crosswalk, promoting respect for pedestrian right-of-way.

Numerous studies have shown that the presence of crosswalks significantly reduces pedestrian accidents. According to the Federal Highway Administration, marked crosswalks can reduce pedestrian crashes by up to 53%! Implementing this easy but essential change can provide peace of mind for families and enhance safety for the entire community.

It's time to prioritize our community's safety and well-being by installing a crosswalk at Fossil Falls Park. Sign this petition to urge local authorities to take immediate action towards this much-needed enhancement for the safety and enjoyment of our community.
