Build a Counterspace in the Paul G. Allen School!

The Issue

Since entering into the Paul G. Allen School CSE program as undergraduates, we have witnessed multiple systemic and cultural aggressions towards low-income, minority, dis/abled, and queer students.

We recognize the efforts to address these within the 5-year DEIA plan, but believe that to retain the current diverse student populace more immediate social support must be implemented. We are requesting the support and permission of Paul G Allen school to create a counterspace: a safe space for marginal groups within the CSE program.

If we are provided with a designated room we can facilitate funding, collaboration, social supports, and student-led efforts to help our peer groups through access to an on-campus food pantry, safe study facilities, and information that connects marginalized students to clubs and resources.

This provides necessary accessibility for students attending right now and can continue to serve students far into the future as Paul G. Allen strengthens the diversity in their program and their support and facilitation of intersectionality.

We want this space to be built by the start of Fall semester of 2022. To learn more visit: https://multiculturalmatrix.github.io/
