Build a Cincinnati Skatepark

Build a Cincinnati Skatepark

The Issue

This petition is to show support and to prove that there is a genuine local need for a concrete skatepark in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In comparison to regional cities similar in size to Cincinnati such as Louisville, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Lexington, we are severely lacking in facilities dedicated to wheeled-sports (skateboards, roller-skates, inline-skates, scooters, BMX bikes). Des Moines, Iowa recently built a world-class facility which not only serves the local community, but also holds competitions which attract athletes from across the country and beyond. Several of our small, tri-state area townships, and municipalities such as Lawrenceburg, Florence, Delhi, Colerain, Kettering, and Middletown all have skateparks which have proven to be successful.

The new skatepark will be a free-to-use, safe, inclusive and family orientated sports facility for users of all ages. Professionally designed constructed by Hunger Skateparks with design input from local skatepark users. Potential locations may include Ryan Sports Complex, Oskamp Playground, or Dunham Recreation Area.

Skateparks are proven to increase health, well-being, community cohesion whilst reducing social exclusion and anti-social behavior. Unlike other outdoor recreation areas such as ball fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts skateparks are open year round and are often more utilized. The skatepark will not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the town and will be an asset to the whole community.
