Let ETID Write the Buffalo Sabres Goal Song

The Issue

Back in February of 2011, Terry Pegula told the world the Buffalo Sabres' "reason for existence, will be to win a Stanley Cup." In those 8 years, we have witnessed 5 coaching and 2 general manager changes while being told of the need to change culture in what was once dubbed "Hockey Heaven".

The Pegulas have taken pride in their involvement in the resurgence of the city of Buffalo. Connections to businesses and organizations throughout have brought pride back to the area in many ways. As fans of Buffalo, as fans of hockey, and as fans of music we ask the Pegulas to give us pride in one more area:

The Sabres Goal Song

In 1999, Texas natives and hockey fans Pantera wrote a song adopted by the Dallas Stars on their way to win* a Stanley Cup. While that year in particular stings for Buffalo sports history, it marked a change in culture for the hockey club in Dallas.

1999 is also the year Every Time I Die began taking over Buffalo basements with their energy and knack for culture change. Over the last 20 years the band has released 8 full length records, toured all corners of the world and even has a day named after them in the city.

What does any of this have to do with the Sabres? Members of the band have been season ticket holders and proud supporters of the team through the thick of it all. Why not let them help change the culture in the arena on game days. A locally written goal song by a successful band from it sounds like a step in the right direction for change. No longer should Buffalo be looked at as complacent.

Do the right thing PSE and the Sabres Organization. Give us that anthem we deserve.
