Uber/Lyft pickup spots on Chippewa and Allen street in Buffalo.

Uber/Lyft pickup spots on Chippewa and Allen street in Buffalo.

The Issue

Every weekend in the city of Buffalo is usually jam packed with people trying to release some stress from the work week. There is also some who are just trying to earn a few dollars to pay their bills by driving for Uber/Lyft. Unfortunately the City of Buffalo Police would rather harass these drivers, or worse, give them tickets for stopping on busy streets in downtown.

What the city of Buffalo doesnt take into account is the fact these drivers are actually assisting the city by driving potential drunk drivers to their destinations and home. I can assure you we dont want to pull over to chat with our friends, or eat chicken wings.

However, the city of buffalo police continuously harass drivers when we have to pull over briefly to pick up a passenger. Drivers have been yelled, sworn at, bullied and ticketed to the point many drivers dont even want to work down there. We are told repeatedly to keep driving around the block and have the customer jump in our vehicle. This is not only a waste of gas and time for the driver, but it's also dangerous for the customer, and adds to the already busy traffic in these areas.

The airport offers a solution that works: an uber/Lyft pickup spot. If the city of buffalo dedicated a few spots on both Allen and chippewa, this would solve many frustrations from both sides of the issue. These signs can even state they are valid only on weekends to allow weekday workers to park there.

If this issue isnt addressed, the city of Buffalo will have an accident or worse, to have to answer for. I urge you to please consider this for the residents who spend their hard earned money patronizing the establishments on these streets.
