Buffalo has recently cut 14 of the remaining 28 instrumental music programs, and greatly reduced 4 more programs. We are petitioning the board to over turn this decision and reinstate these programs. Instrumental music is a vital part of learning. It incorporates skills which relate to all other core subject areas as well as teaching students teamwork, discipline, dedication, and responsibility. In a city where more than 1/3 of the population is living below the poverty line, schools are the only place where many of these students will ever have the opportunity to pick up and learn an instrument.
