Open own social media accounts for the Wessex family
The Issue
The Earl and Countess of Wessex are Senior members of the Royal Family. As the Family slims down, with the Duke of York stepping down, then the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left to live abroad, Prince Edward and Sophie are more and more assuming public duties.
With the coronavirus crisis, the Earl and Countess of Wessex stepped up and took on more public duties in the Queen's absence, while she's staying in Windsor Castle for un undetermined period.
Edward, 56, and his wife Sophie, 55, are set to play a key role in the future. Her Majesty is in constant contact with Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Edward. The Wessex have their own voice and the public is in need to listen to their own ideas not only sharing general social media accounts from Buckingham Palace. Edward will one day be the brother of the King. His older brother, Andrew, has his own official accounts managed by his staff. Why Edward can't have the same? Furthermore, in the Wessex family, both Edward and Sophie assume a lot of duties.
Other Senior members of the Royal Family own their specific social accounts
Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall daily duties are displayed and Twitter and Instagram on their accounts named "Clarence House". The same goes for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge with their accounts "Kensington Palace" on Twitter and Instagram. Until recently, the Sussex had their own accounts, known as "Sussex Royal". The Duke of York has his own social media accounts too, known simply as "The Duke of York".
The Queen and other "minor" members of the Royal Family, such as Princess Alexandra, the Duke of Gloucester, Princess Royal and... the Wessex Family use the general accounts of the Royal Family known as "Buckingham Palace".
What we ask?
Following the same communication strategy as applied to other Senior members of the Royal Family, we ask to open specific accounts on Twitter and Instagram for the Earl and the Countess of Wessex.
The name could be "Bagshot Park" as other members (such as Her Majesty, Prince Charles, Prince William) use the name of their official residence. Or the name could simply be "Wessex Royal" or "Wessex Family".
