Change Illinois State Bird

The Issue

In 2013, Slate.com released an article outlining out there are 7 Cardinals that are designated as a state bird. This includes the great state of Illinois.  Yet, there are no hawks designated as state birds.

Not only would we like to propose this change in the interest of more diversity, we would also like to point out the conundrum this creates for the residents and fans of our professional sports teams.   The Chicago Cubs are starting their postseason series against The Cardinals tonight, and it seems discouraging to know that our state bird is also an unintended endorsement of the opposition.

We would like to propose that this gets changed as soon as possible, or at least for whenever The Cubs play The Cardinals.

Thank you,
