The Issue
Evans was arrested Wednesday after police searched his apartment Nov. 14 and found several mutilated rats in the freezer, some with severed heads, legs and tails,and two cat paws. They also found knives covered with dried blood and animal fur in several rooms and an 18-inch machete, a Hollywood police report said.
In social media postings, Evans claimed to be a voodoo priest and said he practiced Afro Caribbean religions known for animal sacrifice, according to the police reHe has remained in jail on 17 counts of animal abuse and being held on cash bond of $1000,000 bond.
Ollie died 2 days later.

Animal lovers worldwide were outraged by Ollie’s story, at first offering to adopt himand later donating $65,000 in reward money to help find his killer. It was unclear immediately whether anyone would be collecting the reward.
Despite his horrific injuries, Ollie remained sweet, trusting and friendly during the two days he spent at the animal hospital, and his tail never stopped wagging, his caretakers said.
“When he died, there were tears everywhere,” said Linda Ream, spokeswoman for the animal hospital. “It was silent in the building. Our doctors worked so hard to give Ollie that chance to stay with us.”
The animal hospital sent his body to a state lab in central Florida for a necropsy. His remains were then incinerated and taken to a landfill in Osceola County – standard procedure for the lab.
Police say they did not need a necropsy, but the animal hospital ordered one to help bolster the case, said Dr. Nicole Patterson, who helped treat Ollie.
Patterson said the necropsy report revealed no surprises.
“He went into shock as a result of all of his wounds,” she said. “He was a really tough dog and he hung in there for as long as he could. It was just too much for his body to handle.”
A GoFundMe page set up by Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue raised more than $40,000 to pay Ollie’s vet bills, which are more than $15,000. The Fort Lauderdale-based rescue group says it plans to use the remaining money to help other animals in need.
