Stop BSL in Miami
Mark Buehrle just signed a $58 million contract with the Miami Marlins, but he won't be allowed to live near the team's ball park due to discrimination. One of his family members is an 18-month-old American Staffordshire terrier, named Slater, who falls under the county's pit bull ban. Despite opposition to breed-specific bans by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, and the Centers for Disease Control, to name a few, Miami-Dade County has apparently chosen to accept the myths about pit bulls. Information on these misconceptions abound at sites like BadRap.org, HappyPit Bull.com, PitBullFacts.net and PitBullLovers.com. Along with its myth-busters, RealPitBull.com cites sources. They all agree that dogs, like people, are products of how they're raised, and that pit bulls make great rescue and therapy dogs and possess other endearing traits as well. Tell Miami-Dade to End its Ban on Pit Bulls. We, the undersigned, feel your 1989 law banning pit bull breeds from Miami-Dade County is outdated and based on media hype and myths. We request that you consider the many facts, now readily available, that dispel the myths about this breed being particularly aggressive and also consider the stand by numerous reputable organizations that breed-specific bans are inappropriate. Additionally we ask that you consider the many benefits this breed of dog offers, including its value as a family pet and rescue and therapy dog. Please end your ban on pit bulls! Thank you for your consideration of these requests.
