Establish a No Kill Policy in Broward County, Florida and implement it through TNR, sanctuaries and any other means necessary
The Issue
Broward County, Florida needs to put a no kill policy in place and implement it through TNR and properly managed sanctuaries and any other means necessary to carry it out.
There is a large Feral/Stray Cat Population in South Florida & in the Broward County Parks. These feral/stray cats are being trapped and taken to county facilities where their only outcome is euthanasia. 3/4's of all animals taken to the county facility are euthanized, without ever having the opportunity to be rescued, adopted or taken to a sanctuary. There is currently no sanctuary and no program in place to handle the cats that have nowhere to go after being trapped and delivered to the county shelter.
Suzanne Williams, the Founder of Cat Crusade, is known in this community for her work with the feral/stray population. Her reputation for helping the cats in this community is well known.
Ms. Williams is a dedicated, passionate person whose desire is to rescue, fix and save as many animals as possible.
I am aware of the feral/stray cat population in South Florida, and it is my belief that Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) is the safest choice for the feral cats and it also keeps the vacuum effect from happening. My second choice would be a local sanctuary, run by several 501C3 rescues like Cat Crusade, with a rescue committee overseeing the daily happenings and monitoring intakes. The third choice would be trap, neuter and relocate to another area or neighborhood, but there are issues with relocating a colony cat to a foreign area without overseeing it, some of them deadly,.
Euthanizing healthy animals should never be the first or only choice, when there are many other viable solutions. I support a no kill policy in Broward County, Florida and I would support a properly managed sanctuary in South Florida as a place for ferals and strays to go in lieu of euthanasia.
Please help me stop the senseless killing of thousands of animals annually because there is a gap in the system that does not provide a safe place for ferals/strays to live out their lives peaceably.
