Why this petition matters

Started by Garnet Frost

Sign this petition to oppose the Beckenham Public Halls being taken away from the community. The Leader of Bromley Council must keep the Beckenham Public Halls in full public ownership, with majority public use, and for public benefit.

Bromley Council want to lease out the Beckenham Public Hall to a new operator.  The new operator will need to repair the halls and is only required to keep some of the building for community use. This will be devastating for our community groups and clubs that use the halls.

Why are Bromley Council privatising the Beckenham Public Hall?

Bromley Council has neglected this heritage building for many years and have caused a repair bill of over £1 million.  The Council doesn't want to pay this, so they want a new operator to pay for the repairs and in return they can use most of the building for commercial purposes.  No one knows exactly what the Council is negotiating with potential new operators, but we do know that community access to the building will be far less.

The Grade II listed Beckenham Public Halls built in 1873 has two halls, a community room, kitchen and bar. It is an essential asset for our community.  Sign this petition to keep the Beckenham Public Halls for the community.
