We are currently preparing a document detailing the exact location, it's history, and why we think the land would be suitable for sustainable development whilst at the same time benefiting the local community and BYMT. The site is currently being considered by Bromley Council under a process named "call for sites" which is confidential in the first stage and forms part of the borough's Local Development Plan. This will shape our housing developments for the next 20 years. During the first 10 years the borough has a duty to create a minimum of 6,141 new homes, they are currently now behind target. The full list of sites will in time be subject to a public consultation and an inspection in public conducted by a planning inspector. The land currently forms a small part of Scrubbs Farm known to many of us as the old pig farm (we remember the smell!) but has more recently operated more like an industrial estate. The farmer has now reached retirement age and his children do not want to farm. Although the farm could be sold in its entirety the particular field in question is surrounded by housing on three sides and was part developed with private and council houses either side of the war. For our children's sake we have to face the facts that more homes are needed especially the right type of homes, houses with nice gardens and not tower blocks with no parking as is already being suggested for Bromley town centre. We also want to create plots for self and custom building in line with new legislation. A number of homes will be affordable homes but we intend to break the mould for social housing and design attractive looking homes. With new schools on there way as well as more doctors, nurses and workers in general wanting to live in Bromley we aim to provide the homes that they so desperately need.
