Why this petition matters

Started by liz hayden

Rodman Hall Art Centre was created by and for the residents of the city and region in order to preserve this unique historical site, provide professional art experiences to the community and maintain the public Carolinian gardens overlooking Twelve Mile Creek and the downtown.

Brock University acquired the property from the community in 2003 for $2 and agreed to operate the art museum for a period of 20 years.

The University has again ignored the recommendations of their own expert consultants as well as the wishes of the community and announced yet another poorly-conceived plan that threatens the future existence of Rodman Hall Art Centre and contravenes the terms of the 2003 agreement.

We ask that the trustees of the University reconsider this ill-advised course of action. There is no acceptable option in which these lands and buildings are privatized and inaccessible to the public for their use, enjoyment and edification.

We further ask that Brock University honour the spirit of the agreement they made with the people of this city to maintain and operate the Rodman Hall Arts Centre as a public resource.
