Broad Street Bridge Construction and a Redirection of Heavy Traffic in Carter County

The Issue

Our town, and  Carter County is embedded in our hearts for its charm, history, and a tight-knit community that cares deeply about preserving our legacy. However, recent developments have gravely threatened the safety, convenience, and charm of our hometown.

The closure of the Broad Street Bridge has caused a re-routing of traffic, including heavy tractor-trailer trucks, through our peaceful downtown and disquieting Lovers Lane. This has led to severe congestion, a striking danger to our residents and a visible blow to our historical relics, chiefly our war monument fought over by our forefathers—an embodiment of our town's history, now in reflected pieces.

Our war monument, particularly our cannons—symbols of pride for the people of Carter County—have been ran over and destroyed by these oversized vehicles. This disruption has caused the downtown businesses to suffer, endangering our local economy, and transforming our once tranquil streets into an unsafe arena for parking and pedestrian movement.

Carter County is more than a geographic location—it's our home. It's where we work, live, and create memories. What's at stake is more than a monument or businesses—it's the preservation of our shared sense of community.

For the sake of our town's safety, it's historical symbols, the thriving of our local businesses, and the quality of life in Carter County, we urge local, and state officials to evaluate the current situation and come up with an alternative route for the heavy traffic.

Please stand with us, sign this petition, and let the voices of Carter County be heard. Together, we can restore the peaceful essence of our hometown.
