Brixworth Safety Concerns: RZN 1168-2022
The Issue
Safety for our children of Brixworth is #1.
Safety on Danes Drive:
Danes Drive is not mentioned under "Access, Streets and Sidewalks" in the "General Attachment: RZN 1168-2022 _AG to R-2 and R-3_" located on the City's agenda located on their website.
- Neighboring Brixworth to the proposed new development currently does not have an HOA board to approve or deny permissions needed to cross HOA-controlled and Brixworth-owned green space.
- The current concept map proposed by the developer to the City of Spring Hill shows direct access to Danes Drive via our controlled green space by imposing a street right in the middle of it (removing a large area of greenery the HOA maintains).
- Our school buses currently use Danes Drive in their route and the entry point proposed by the developer is located at the curved corner; becoming a concern and danger to the school buses transporting our children with the significant curved blind spot.
Safety on Safe Haven Place:
- Brixworth's South Pool and Mailboxes are located at an additional proposed connection site.
- The bus stop is located on the corner of Brixworth Drive and Safe Haven Place.
- During the holiday season, UPS imposed 4 storage pods and trailers at our South Pool parking lot (without resident approval) causing additional traffic and blind spots while navigating to get the mail.
- The power lines located at this proposed entry point are low; creating a danger of potential trucks damaging our electricity (with potential fire); impacting the health and welfare of those in the area (especially those that use medical equipment).
Proposed Walking Trail:
- The proposed walking trail looks as though it is near the flood area.
- The proposed walking trail does not connect to a sidewalk or area in which children could safely walk to school.
Adequate Public Schools:
- Neighboring Allendale Elementary School is already impacted and is unable to serve the Brixworth development.
- Where will the new proposed development go to elementary school?
Other notes:
- R-3 Zoning does not align with the character of the community.
- The proposed site layout plan does not incorporate usable open space.
- The proposed site layout plan does not provide internal connectivity throughout the site.
- The proposed site plan does not incorporate the city's Bike and Greenway Plan.
