Petition updateBP: Stand by your commitment to the GulfStudy: BP oil covers Rhode Island-sized chunk of Gulf floor

In a study released yesterday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by researchers with the University of California and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, scientists announced that 1,200 miles of the Gulf floor surrounding the site of BP's disaster remain covered in oil. The scene is described as a massive "bathtub ring" of MC-252, the oil that originated at BP's Macondo Prospect, home of the Deepwater Horizon rig. This announcement comes just days after BP declared the Gulf alive and well in a self-serving puff piece in Politico, and two years after BP began refusing payments to victims of the environmental and economic disaster. The study's timing could not be worse for the oil giant, as it seeks the U.S. Supreme Court's help in the coming weeks to renege on its "commitment to the Gulf." Please help push this petition to 20,000 signors so we can continue to apply the pressure. Thanks, Tom
