British Gymnastics recently named their women’s artistic team for Tokyo 2021. They have left their best hope of a medal out of their team. Becky Downie won SILVER in the WORLD championships and yet has been left off even the reserves list. 

Myself and others believe that this is a result of Becky being open about the culture of abuse experienced in British Gymnastics and that she is being punished for holding them accountable. 

Don’t forget that many of the experiences gymnasts suffered as a result of this culture were so severe that they were reported to the police. 

British Gymnastics said they would learn from the abuse scandal within USAG and yet have still taken their anger out on Becky. 

We need the selection process to be fair and as such I believe that the selection committee should be replaced by independent judges at a separate event. The gymnasts selected for the team are all extremely talented and deserve their place - but Becky deserves the chance to be considered by unbiased judges. 

At the very least, British Gymnastics should make their selection process transparent to the public to ensure it is fair.
