Tomorrow Wednesday the 19th of October should have been the date we finally got our men out of prison and on bail. It should have been the date that the appeal would begin and we could look forward to getting our men home for good and When we could finally start to think about rebuilding our lives. But that would all be too straightforward and easy for a case that over the past 3 years has engulfed our lives. Throughout the case we have had the carrot dangled to within our grasp, only to have someone swoop in and take it back from us.
During the past three years we have been on the most exhausting, frustrating and life changing roller-coaster, that none of us ever imagined we would have to ride. If it wasn’t for public support, phenomenal friends and family and the British media backing our campaign I don’t know where any of us would have found the strength to carry on.
Tomorrow Alok Sharma Minister for Asia and the Pacific will meet the MPs of the men’s families. Ahead of that Meeting MP Rishi Sunak raised the issue in the commons and asked them to "do everything in their power to work with the Indian authorities and resolve the situation for all the families concerned". Mr Sharma responded by saying his "heart goes out to the families", and he had raised the case when he visited India in July and again on the 5th of October and looked forward to the meeting tomorrow.
From the meeting tomorrow we want answers. There has been far too many questions gone unanswered throughout the past three years. We need to know why our men are being held in India. Why are they still there 3 years on. They’ve proven their innocence. They’ve been acquitted and Every single person involved in our case can see without a shadow of a doubt that our men, are innocent men.
Prime Minister Theresa May travels to India in November and has vowed to raise our case during her visit. I truly hope she keeps her word, and believe she will. Theresa May has the opportunity to right a wrong, and ensure that the Indian government understand fully that that they are imprisoning innocent men. I personally feel this visit is of huge importance and can bring home fresh hope for both the men and their families. This time however we need more than words. Words have fallen on deaf ears time and time again. We need action and we need them home!!!
I hope tomorrow each and every person at the meeting in parliament puts themselves in the shoes of our men. I hope the think about how they would feel having their freedom taken from them with no rational reasoning behind it or explanation as to why. I hope they take into consideration how this as effected and will go on to effect the men mentally and physically. I hope they see the devastation this has caused, and the desperation we all feel. I hope they understand the frustration felt, when a country you risked your life to protect has failed you time and time again for three years. Most of all I hope during that meeting they sit down and make a plan, to take action and ensure our men are returned home safely with their names cleared.
