Myself and Joanne Thomlison (John Armstrongs Sister) Returned from India late last night.
We spend 7 days in India. We went full of hope that we could visit the men daily, reassure them of the support they have both back home and in India, Bring them essentials and Have meetings with various government officials and Lawyers.
We Met the Legal Team whom we are more than happy with. They have filed both the appeal of conviction and bail to try and get them out of prison.
Dr Alexander Evans the acting Indian High Commissioner flew down from Delhi to Chennai to meet with us. We had just over a hour with him. Alot of what he had to say we have heard before, with empty words that see no action. However He has reassured us that himself and the British Government are taking the case seriously and are well informed of what is going on. He assured that they will continue to support the men with any welfare issues and will raise the case both in india and Uk with the relevant officials. I sincerely hope he keeps his promise.
The men never knew we were coming to visit them and were relieved to see us. We were only allowed to Visit the men twice, but this was one more than previously allowed.
To date none of their Indian Friends have been allowed permission to visit them. Family members are only allowed to visit once a fortnight, and without phone calls or letters communications are extremely limited to the point of non-existent.
Both myself and Joanne were extremely proud of how the men have and continue to conduct themselves. Despite the tough prison conditions they have all pulled together and are supporting each other through this horrific time and putting their hope and lives in the hands of the legal team, their families and the UK Government.
To date this has been the hardest of my 4 trips to India. Not only were we visiting the men in prison for the second time, but they were not convicted men facing 5 years rigorous imprisonment. The 11th of January should have saw a non-guilty verdict, but somehow despite the evidence and trial all pointing in that direction. 6 innocent British men now face a uncertain future, and the immediate future in horrific conditions, with no communications in a indian Prison.
We are unsure when we will next get to see the men, or where we will see them. But one thing we can be sure is that with your help and support we will get through this, and so will the men.
We must continue to keep the pressure on the prime Minister to ensure this injustice is put to bed and the men are returned home ASAP. They simply cannot be forgotten about and left to rot in this place.
We also must continue to fund raise to enable us to fight for their freedom and pay their legal fees. If you feel you would like to donate please do through the Mission to Seafarers at
