BC Wildfire Petition started this petition to Micheal Farnworth (Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General of British Columbia and Government House Leader) and

The time has come to re-evaluate our wild fire suppression strategy in British Columbia. We need to expand our fire fighting force so that it is capable of containing wild fires that are in close proximity to communities, towns and cities across our beautiful province. The number of destructive wild fires across our province has increased dramatically over the last decade, causing unnecessary risk to the lives, of our farmers, citizens, and firefighters. The resources required to ensure safety to all British Columbians, has dramatically increased and the need for more sophisticated and more efficient fire fighting equipment is needed.

British Columbians are calling for a dramatic increase in our wild fire suppression equipment, especially in our fleet of larger fire fighting aircraft’s that can have a greater effect on a larger area of aggressive wildfires. We would also like to see an increase of our smaller aircraft support, such as bucketing helicopters, smaller “bird dog” aircrafts, and ground suppression equipment. The need of additional support staff and specialized structure suppression has never been more clear. At this date, British Columbians watch as the White Rock Lake and McKay Creek wildfires devastate nearby communities causing unnecessary risk to the lives of our firefighters, citizens and livestock.

The B.C. Government needs to address the forest management processes in this province. Wildfires could be dramatically decreased by properly dealing with beetle kill trees, as well as additional fuels that are blanketing our forests floors. Fire breaks in high threat areas can reduce the infectious rates and allow greater control over wildfires.

Our province needs to expand our firefighting force to react aggressively with a minimum amount of bureaucracy to directly suppress all threatening wild fires. Wildfires that threaten the health and safety of our communities needs to be dealt with in a timely manner.

Once a wildfire is no longer a threat to our communities, final mop up can be finished with fewer resources.

The government of British Columbia should welcome support from our neighbouring provinces, whenever their help is offered.

British Columbians are calling for action! We love our beautiful province and do not want to see it burn to the ground, year after year.
