Video On demand platforms must submit their contents for BBFC classification by Law
The Issue
Video On demand (VoD) apps (Netflix,Prime video etc ) are now easily available and we have seen increased use of it during lockdown. They stream many shows and by law they do not need certification from BBFC British Board of Film Certification unlike Movies released in theatres and DVD or Bluray where it is required by law.
Whether their show needs a certification can be decided by the them though many shows are certified this is not the case for all the shows.
This means it’s content can be viewed by children and teenagers who now have easy access from any streaming devices including mobile phones. Some shows are suitable only for adults and if they are not certified by BBFC and have no age restrictions for viewing it is detrimental for vulnerable age groups.
Please support this appeal so it is legal for the media giants to get their shows certified appropriately.
