For each and every one of us, going to the cinema is a break from reality. An escape from boredom. Yet, for people with emetophobia, going to the cinema can be an anxiety-inducing experience.

Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting and sickness. These things aren't nice to watch for most people, but for emetophobics, they are hugely triggering experiences. Some people with emetophobia won't even go to the cinema if they aren't 100% sure that a film is "safe". There are audience-sourced websites that say which films are triggering, such as Does The Dog Die, but these are not comprehensive or entirely reliable sources of information.

Therefore, Emetophobia Watch is calling on the British Board of Film Classification to introduce specific content warnings for vomiting scenes in films. Such warnings already include drug and alcohol use, domestic violence and explicit language. If the BBFC were to add vomiting to this list of content warnings, then finally there would be a reliable source for emetophobic people to use when deciding whether to see a film or not. Sufferers of emetophobia already have difficult lives, so this campaign is the least we can do to ask to make their lives a little bit easier.

The only thing that will make sure the BBFC introduces this content warning is your support! They are not, in principle, opposed to this action. Yet, they do need to see a public outcry for this to actually happen!
