Smokers and Non-smokers alike can agree that the waste from cigarette butts has gotten out of hand. It is the world's most littered item and is comprised mostly of cellulose acetate (a plastic),  We must demand cigarette companies take charge of this situation and push to make biodegradable cigarette butts the standard (these filters already exist and are sold at similar prices as non degradable filters). This change would not only positively impact the environment, but in economic terms, companies that jump on board will have a competitive advantage that will most likely result in increased sales. Just because people smoke doesn't mean they don't care for the environment. It is time to change the habit of littering butts from the very source of production. The point of this petition is not to make it acceptable to litter cigarette butts, and smokers should continue their efforts in disposing of them properly.
