Dear Orca Friends, SeaWorld's tank expansion known as the Blue World Project is now in the application stage. The Coastal Commission has opened an E-Mail account for comments. SeaWorld has already asked their supporters to contact the Coastal Commission and tell them how much they are in support of the tank expansion. Apparently, the coastal commission has not received any negative feedback as of yet. How can that be? Here's what you can do: 1) Please send a quick E-Mail to the Coastal Commission and ask them to not grant SeaWorld the permission for the Blue World Project. 2) Here's what you can include in your E-Mail asking the Coastal Commission to reject SeaWorld's application: To: SeaWorldOrcaFacility@coastal.ca.gov Content: 1) Why you are against the tank expansion: - scientific research shows that captive orcas live shorter lives than wild orcas - captive orcas are ill more often as they have a weakened immune system - orcas do not adapt well to captivity in general as shown by the 161 deaths of orcas in captivity 2) The tank expansion would not result in captive orcas having more space: - Jim Atchison, the former CEO of SeaWorld, stated in an interview that the Blue World Project would allow SeaWorld to breed more orcas. So building a bigger tank would only result in more breeding, not more space for orcas currently held captive at SeaWorld) Please keep your E-Mails as factual and polite as possible. The Blue World Project not being granted to SeaWorld would be a massive blow to SeaWorld!!!
