British Airways London to Tunis Flight is still missing. Please Resume this flight.

The Issue

Dear British Airways,

We are writing to you in order to request/invite British Airways to resume regular flights to Tunis Carthage airport in Tunisia at least three times a week in its next review of destinations.

We are regular BA customers, family members (Spouse, Kids etc..) living and working in the United Kingdom and executive members since many years.

We used to travel frequently to Tunis Carthage with BA when Tunis was a BA regular destination throughout the year, and we will certainly travel again, several times yearly with BA, often in Business Class, if BA were to resume its service to Tunis from London Heathrow (most suitable airport to several frequent travelers to Tunis).

I suppose that BA has suspended the Gatwick-Tunis route in 2013 because the flights were not profitable - post 2011 Tunisian revolution and UK travel restrictions - leaving all regular BA travelers to Tunis with only one option, Tunisair, to fly on a regular and direct flight to Tunis Carthage.

In February 2018, UK FCO removed its travel ban on Tunisia leaving plenty of space to Thomas Cook, TUI to fly its British tourist customers to a secondary airport (Enfidha, up to 2h far from Tunis with traffic and unsuitable overnight flights) and Tunisair (to Tunis) to attract tens of thousands of travelers yearly.

As frequent and business travelers, we have experienced in the last 6 months, several times, a fully booked Tunisair Flight or unsuitable flight time (Tunisair return is as early as 1pm return flight on Sunday). The other options left are usually Lufthansa and Air France with stopover in Paris, Frankfurt or Munich. The fares in economy class in those flights are more expensive than any BA Business Class flight to Rome or Malta (Similar distance than London-Tunis) and usually 6h total flight duration as opposed to 2:40 h from London Heathrow. We did book those flights in numerous occasions.

With two transparent and fully democratic elections since 2011, Tunisia is now the only destination in North Africa and the Middle East with transparent and democratic government and business is returning as a consequence to its capital Tunis. Economic Growth numbers have been good in the previous quarters. No terrorist incident targeting tourists were recorded since June 2015, making Tunisia one of the hot spot safe touristic destinations in 2018. Nice Hotels in Hammamet (45mn from Tunis) were usually fully booked in the sunny months from April to October. There is also a large community of Tunisian returning to Tunis during year end and other school holidays. London Heathrow is also an excellent stopover for Tunisians or tourists from North America and Asia when it comes to travel to Tunis as it is usually a better option for several travelers than Paris, Frankfurt.

Several Hotels and large Groups opened new Hotels in the capital such as Four Seasons Gammarth – a Business Hotel. We also see emergence of New Luxurious Boutique Hotels. Tens of nice accommodations are excellent destinations for BA customers through its accommodation offers that has no equivalent offers with other airlines. The lower foreign exchange rate of the TND is also a helpful factor.

We would therefore like to have BA review Tunis as credible and profitable destination to resume flights from LHR (choice Heathrow will definitely help making London-Tunis profitable again).
