Bring Back Snacks to Bristol Township Elementary Schools

The Issue

The superintendent of Bristol Twp School district has decided to eliminate any food within the classroom including snack because of allergy concerns.

As a mother of 2 elementary school age children I found it careless that the District put this policy in place. This new policy will affect our children learning ability and will also affect the almighty standardized test.

I have researched that most food allergies that are "LIFE THREATENING", as the letter stated, are nut, shellfish, and fish. Although there are many other types of food allergies these are the most common "LIFE THREATENING" ones. My solution would be sending a list of foods home that are acceptable for the classroom like pretzels, cheese, animal crackers etc; whatever the District Coordinator of Health Services deems acceptable and safe. Of course make provision for the children that might be allergic to things on the list but that should be handled on a case by case occurrence.
