Hello everyone. Today, all the families affected by the planned closure / out-sourcing of BAP received a letter from Bristol City Council. I thought perhaps you'd like to read it:

As you can see, there is no certainty as to what will replace BAP, or whether it will bear any resemblance to the current excellent service. All we know is that after the summer half-term, BAP as we know it will end.
While increased funding for short breaks and respite care for families is obviously a good thing, what marks BAP out as unique is its inclusivity. It enables us to do what 'normal' families take for granted - go out for the day, together, to an activity, knowing that we're supported. BAP is accessible without referrals from a healthcare professional or Social Services. Short breaks and respite care are not.
As service users, those most directly affected by changes to our support services, we feel that we were neither consulted, nor informed, until they were virtually a fait accompli - our views were not considered. All we can do now is voice our objections via this petition and hope that the council, or whatever body takes over the running of BAP, and other similar services, will take note.
BAP is something that Bristol City Council should be proud of. It's a brilliant service, not to mention a very popular and well-attended one. And demand is rising. To out-source it, or to restructure it out of all recognition, seems nonsensical.
Please continue your amazing work of spreading the word about this petition. Thank you for your support.
Lou Bell
