Arush Saraswat started this petition to Brisbane City Council and

After the devastating bushfires experienced here in Australia this year leading to the death of 80% of our native wildlife, a developer is after the lives of more. The Brisbane City Council has previously rejected the developers application for 415-427 Beckett Road Bridgeman Downs QLD multiple times as it is inappropriate for the area and detrimental to the surrounding environment. This has not discouraged the developer who have taken the fight to court and is expecting to make headway with their project. The area earmarked by the developer was recently designated as a core Koala habitat by the state government, however due to planning regulations (as the development application was lodged prior to this change) it won’t impact the application. If we continue to destroy animal habitats we eventually won’t have anything left to look after. The Koala population in Australia is critically endangered and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently estimated that there won’t be any Koalas left in the wild by 2050. Is this the future we want for our world? I implore the Brisbane City Council and the State Government to purchase this land and turn it into a reserve for Koala conservation, as this is the only continuation of the mountains to the mangroves wildlife corridor along Beckett Road. I also urge both council and state government to strengthen planning laws so inappropriate developments such as this cannot proceed in the future. It is our responsibility to look after our environment, if we do not do this, we have failed as a society.
