Brinnington deserves better.
The Issue
GIVE BRINNINGTON RESIDENTS TWO FREE BULKY WASTE COLLECTIONS A YEAR
Petition to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council
Fly-tipping continues to be a serious problem in Brinnington, with unwanted furniture, mattresses and household appliances regularly being dumped.
Stockport Council currently charges residents to have bulky household items collected. For many households, these charges can be difficult to afford.
Several councils across the country already provide free bulky-waste collections. We believe Brinnington deserves the same opportunity.
We are calling on Stockport Council to introduce a 12-month pilot scheme offering:
Two free bulky-waste collections per household each year.
Collections restricted to beds, bulky household furniture and domestic appliances.
A maximum of three items per collection.
Available to all Brinnington households, including homeowners and tenants.
A simple booking system, online or by telephone.
Strict controls to prevent abuse by businesses, landlords and waste traders.
Each residential address would be entitled to a maximum of two free collections annually.
Where possible, suitable items should be recycled or reused rather than sent to landfill.
The council should monitor the cost of providing the service alongside fly-tipping incidents and clearance costs to establish whether the scheme provides value for taxpayers.
This is a practical proposal to help residents dispose of unwanted household items responsibly while tackling fly-tipping and improving our local environment.
If the 12-month pilot proves successful, the council should consider extending the scheme to other wards.
If you live in Brinnington, please support this petition and help us make the case for cleaner streets and a fairer service.
