Bring trimesters back to Green Bay East highschool!
The Issue
This year the Green Bay school district has forced our school to switch from trimesters to semesters, this has caused us to all have 7 class periods instead of 5, 50 minute classes instead of 70 minute classes, and our lunch to be cut down shorter. When we have trimesters the East high students were able to take more classes overall, and they had time to actually prossess the material. Teacher had more time to teach and did not feel rushed to get stuff done, this is esspessaly true for the art teachers like ceramics and sculpture where you have no time to barley get your project out before its time to go to the next class or even home if its your last class of the day. When we had trimesters core classes were only 6 months out of the year and you could have many more electives that made you actually exited to go to class, because of semesters all core classes are the whole year, only leaving us with 2-4 electives unless your a senior. Acording to one of the teachers here at east highschool the other schools in the district where SUPPOSED to switch to teimesters as well but aparently they just didn't do that. Why should we as a school have to switch to semesters just because the other schools didn't want to switch to trimesters? Why should we as a school have to conform to the other schools norms? From a science teachers POV They dislike the semester change because they find it harder to make and do lab assignments, durning trimesters science teachers were able to introduce the lab, complete the lab, and do the conclusion questions for the lab. From a students POV we have really felt like we have no time to do tests without feeling rushed, the teaching itself feels pretty rushed, and overall overwhelming, when we had trimesters we were able to pick a little under 15 classes with minimal issues with overlapping classes. we felt like Trimesters were the best way to do things most most deffinetly with finals week when we did two days of tests, 3 tests on day 1, and 2 tests on day 2. acording to one of my teachers, they tried to do finals the way we do it now but I didnt work for the teachers nor the students. so please sign this petition to hopefully get the attention of the school district and make them see why the semester change was a big mistake!
