The Issue

We need to upgrade our fire panel before April 2026. We were given one year to do so when we opened last April. We were asked to have our plans in within 7 months, we had some issues with our engineer and didn’t get our plans in until this past week. We had a small mulch fire on Monday night and this brought our delay to the attention of local building inspector Cheryl Noble who then sent us a cease and desist on Tuesday. This caused our residents to not be able to come home. The Red Cross was generous enough to give the guys gift cards to a local motel room for a few days.
We paid for American Alarm to come to the MacHouse on Wednesday to perform an emergency testing of all sprinklers, alarms and the existing fire panel. We passed with flying colors! Which we KNEW we would. I presented Cheryl and Town Administrator Dennis Sheehan with this approval letter as well as submitted our plans to the fire dept for the upgraded fire panel which is due to begin work on February 2nd. It will take approximate 1-2 weeks to complete which puts us WELL WITHIN OUR ONE YEAR GRACE PERIOD. The issue I was told by the town was a ‘trust issue’ because we weren’t able to get our plans in before the time alotted. I begged them to not punish the newly sober men living at The MacHouse  due to a paperwork deadline issue!
This  is not only a paperwork issue it’s also about the personal dislike these town officials have for us, which should NEVER be more important than the sobriety and comfort of the men that call The MacDonald House home.

Our men were forced to move twice in this last 6 days ..once to a motel and a second time to a sober house generously donated as a temporary residence. We are so appreciative of this offer as well as other local sober homes offering rooms and couches for the men to stay in while we work to get them back home. These men need to get back to their structured environment with us. They are lost, they are sad, they are displaced and these men are at high risk for relapse without their structured safe environment they call home. We humbly ask you to sign this petition in support of the men coming home TODAY. They need us and we need them. We need your help! Our current fire panel works there is ZERO need for the town to force them elsewhere while we wait for the upgrade to be done. Plans are in…work is contracted to begin Feb 2nd and will be complete by the one year occupancy inspection in March.

We put our men first and foremost which is why we are starting this petition in hopes of showing Stoneham Town Admins how important it is for these men to come HOME. Thank you for taking the time to read and sign this portion we appreciate you 🙏
