The Issue

We are a group of Filipino students from Pleasanton, California dedicated to bringing Tagalog to PUSD. Our history begins in April 2024 when we first taught Tagalog to PYO, the student-led Filipino club at Foothill High. The following year, spring 2025, we sent out a Google Form petition aimed to bring a Tagalog course across the school district. Students and teachers from Foothill High, Amador High, Hart Middle School, Harvest Park, and Pleasanton Middle School showed great interest in this cause. As a result, we came in contact with other Filipinos who wanted to be a part of our cause.

To gather more awareness on our organization, we are planning to read Tagalog children’s books at local libraries, research on English assimilation in the Philippines, connect to other schools in the Bay Area who do teach Tagalog, represent ourselves at Socal’s Council of Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC), and as of May 2026, we are opening this general petition to students and teachers in PUSD and beyond.
