Super Sentai: the Japanese source material for American pop-culture icon Power Rangers. Most people have found out about Sentai from Power Rangers, but both are popular worldwide. As of writing, Super Sentai is about to celebrate their 50th year of their TV shows.

The problem is that, unlike Power Rangers, Super Sentai is exclusively available to people inside of Japan. There is a very high number of international fans of Super Sentai that would like to see an unchanged western release of all Super Sentai series in some form, such as a paid streaming service.

The thing is that this has already been remedied. TokuSHOUTsu has released several DVDs of Super Sentai series, but there’s the problem of them having to work with Hasbro [who are the current rights holder of Power Rangers, and for Hasbro, Power Rangers isn’t doing so well for them as of this moment] to release DVDs [only in America, though, I am a UK resident] and not Toei Company LTD [who are the makers of Super Sentai], this means that not everything will get an official release with English subtitles.

A way the Super Sentai community could fix this is by notifying Toei Company LTD about official releases to see if they will release them directly from Japan. Of course, another issue would be adding official subtitles for each episode of every series, but seeing as there’s 49 Sentai series [Goranger to Gozyuger], it would take a very long time, which is why they would need to hire a [potentially overseas] team to take up that job [setting a limit of so many DVDs per year would also help].

In my personal opinion, I think making an English-based streaming service would be the best option, seeing as they have already made one for Japanese customers. This means the only real thing they’d need to work on is finding a team of translators as opposed to a company that handles DVD supply, such as the aforementioned TokuSHOUTsu. 

One last thing I’d like to say is that Super Sentai’s main competitor, Ultraman, has already made several English-dubbed episodes on YouTube. The company who makes Ultraman is Tsuburaya Productions Co., LTD. I’d have thought that Toei would have liked to level their standards in order to compete with this more closely. 

As for my final words, I’d like to ask any people with Japanese translating jobs to contact Toei to see if they’re interested.
