Bring Shachie Day Home: A Call for Mercy, Healing, and Second Chances
The Issue
To the Governor of California and the Office of Legal Affairs
We, the undersigned, are raising our voices for someone who can no longer raise theirs loudly enough from behind prison walls.
We are asking for mercy.
We are asking for humanity.
We are asking for a second chance for Shachie Day.
Shachie has spent 27 1/2 years in prison — decades that cannot be returned, decades spent growing, healing, and transforming into a person who is nothing like the one who entered the system so long ago. Time has changed Shachie. Life has changed Shachie. And Shachie has changed herself.
This petition is not about erasing the past.
It is about recognizing the power of redemption.
Why We Are Fighting for Shachie
1. Shachie Has Transformed in Ways That Inspire Everyone Around Them
Inside those walls, Shachie became a mentor, a peacemaker, a voice of reason, and a source of strength for others who were lost.
They have completed programs, taken accountability, and done the deep emotional work that many people on the outside never do.
Shachie has become the kind of person society claims to want people to become.
2. The Sentence No Longer Reflects Who Shachie Is Today
California has acknowledged that many extreme sentences from past decades were rooted in fear, not fairness.
Shachie has already served more time than many people who committed similar offenses today.
Keeping them incarcerated now serves no purpose but pain.
3. A Loving Community Is Waiting With Open Arms
Shachie is not alone.
Family, friends, advocates, and community members stand ready to provide housing, employment, emotional support, and a stable foundation.
Satchie has a home to return to — and people who need them home.
4. Continued Incarceration Does Not Make California Safer
People who have served decades and reached middle age have some of the lowest recidivism rates in the nation.
Shachie is not a threat to society.
She is a testament to what rehabilitation looks like when given the chance.
This Is About Humanity
Shachie is a person.
A soul.
A life that still has meaning, purpose, and value.
She has spent years proving — through actions, not words — she deserve a chance to stand before the parole board and show who she is today.
We are asking the Governor to:
• Acknowledge Shachie’s extraordinary rehabilitation
• Recognize the decades already served
• See the human being behind the prison number
• Grant a commutation that allows Shachie to come home
Mercy is not weakness.
Mercy is leadership.
Mercy is justice with a heartbeat.
