Bring Sepang back to Formula 1 calendar
The Issue
From the thrilling races to world-class facilities, Sepang International Circuit holds a special place in the hearts of Formula 1 enthusiasts like myself. Watching races in Sepang has always been an exhilarating experience, not only for its challenging and exhilarating track layout but also for the seamless synergy with Malaysia's vibrant culture and enthusiastic fanbase. Unfortunately, the glorious roar of F1 engines has been absent from Sepang since 2017, leaving an undeniable void in both Malaysia's motorsport community and F1's global calendar. It's time to bring back this iconic circuit.
Sepang isn't just an ordinary racetrack; it's a symbol of Malaysia's commitment to international motorsports and its potential as a prime location on the Formula 1 map. Known for its challenging turns and two long straights, Sepang offers thrilling opportunities for high-speed battles and requires both skill and precision from the best drivers in the world. Not only does it pose technical challenges, but it also provides spectators with unforgettable moments and breath-taking overtake possibilities.
Sepang benefits from its strategic location in Southeast Asia, providing teams, drivers, and fans with access to one of the world's most dynamic regions. It inherently aligns itself with efforts to diversify the sport's global appeal, reaching millions of fans in a fast-growing market. This adds significant commercial value and tourism potential by drawing global attention to Malaysia, enhancing local businesses, and showcasing Malaysia's rich culture and hospitality.
Furthermore, a return to Sepang would complement the sustainability aims of modern Formula 1, which could utilize Sepang’s commitment to green energy initiatives and its emphasis on long-term environmental stewardship. By investing in innovative sustainability practices, Formula 1 can lead the charge for eco-friendly motorsport events.
Renewing Sepang’s presence on the F1 calendar will not only revive an esteemed racing event but will also invigorate the local economy and inspire a new generation of racing fans in Malaysia and beyond. Formula 1 has evolved over the years, and its calendar should reflect circuits that offer the most in terms of competitiveness, cultural inclusion, and global accessibility.
Please join me in urging Formula 1 Management and the FIA to reintroduce Sepang International Circuit to the calendar. Your support can rekindle Malaysia's motorsport spirit and provide fans worldwide with an extraordinary racing experience once again. Sign the petition if you believe in bringing back this historic event to where it truly belongs.
