The Rosetta Stone is a stele composed of granodiorite inscribed with three versions of a decree issued in Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty on behalf of King Ptolemy V Epiphanes. The top and middle texts are in Ancient Egyptian using hieroglyphic and Demotic scripts respectively, while the bottom is in Ancient Greek. The decree has only minor differences between the three versions, making the Rosetta Stone key to deciphering the Egyptian scripts.

Discovered by the French during the French campaign in Egypt then taken by the British in the aftermath of French surrender and the occupation of Egypt..it's time to bring it back to Egypt..Where it belongs.

حجر رشيد هو نصب من حجر الديوريت مع مرسوم صدر في ممفيس، مصر، في 196 قبل الميلاد نيابة عن الملك بطليموس الخامس. يظهر المرسوم في ثلاثة نصوص: النص العلوي هو اللغة المصرية القديمة الهيروغليفية المصرية، والجزء الأوسط نص الهيراطيقية، والجزء الأدنى اليونانية القديمة. لأنه يقدم أساسا نفس النص في جميع النصوص الثلاثة (مع بعض الاختلافات الطفيفة بينهم)، الحجر يعطي مفتاح الفهم الحديث للهيروغليفية المصرية.
