I think today I’m just a little tired.
Being an international fan of a band like Radio Company often means living on crumbs, and I say that with affection, but also with a little sadness.
Most of us will probably never get to see them live. We don’t have tours to look forward to, or regular shows we can travel to. A huge part of our experience comes from the occasional livestream, a shaky vertical video someone was kind enough to upload, a clip from a convention, a story from someone who was there. Sometimes that really is all we get.
And maybe that’s why the whole discussion about recordings (re: the upcoming Radio Company panels at Creation's) hit me harder than I expected today.
Nobody owes us a concert, a livestream, a video, or a European tour.
Of course not.
And if recording isn’t allowed at an event, that rule should absolutely be respected.
But it still makes me a little sad to see opportunities for sharing becoming even smaller, because for an international fandom, sharing is often the only bridge we have.
I started this petition because I wanted to do something instead of simply wishing they would come here.
A petition, a page, comments, posts, trying to reach more people, basically turning “I wish” into “well, let’s at least try.”
But there’s also a limit to what fans can do.
We can love the music. We can share it. We can ask. We can make some noise and show that there are people waiting for them on this side of the ocean.
But we can’t want it for them.
And I think that’s the part I’m feeling today.
Today I’m just a slightly tired European fan, living on crumbs. 😅
And apparently there are quite a few of us. ❤️
