The Issue

Growing up in Atlantic City, I had the incredible opportunity to work for the Atlantic City Surf, a job that shaped my youth and set the foundation for my professional journey. I started as a bat boy and gradually made my way up to become the assistant director of grounds. Along the way, I wore many hats – from being the music guy and mascot handler to serving as an usher, parking attendant, and maintenance crew. Each role taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, dedication, and the sprit of community.

The Atlantic City Surf was more than just a baseball team; it was a hub of excitement, unity, and tradition for our town. For many of us, attending games at the Surf Stadium was a cherished family activity – a time to create memories, bond with loved ones, and support our local athletes. However, since the team disbanded, a significant void has been left in our community.

Bringing professional baseball back to Atlantic City isn't just about revitalizing our beloved pastime; it's about reigniting community spirit, providing jobs, and enhancing tourism. According to a study by the Economic Development Research Group, minor league teams have a significant positive impact on local economies, bringing spikes in tourism, creating numerous jobs, and providing affordable family fun. Towns like Trenton and Lakewood have already seen these benefits with their teams, and it's high time Atlantic City experienced the same.

We can start this journey by working with local government and sports organizations to explore partnerships and funding options. With the right support and enthusiasm from the community, it's possible to bring a team back to life right here in Atlantic City.

Let’s not allow the memories and the potential of what the Surf once represented to fade into history. Let’s pave the way for future generations to enjoy the crack of the bat, the cheer of the crowd, and the spirit of our town coming together.

Please, sign this petition to show your support in bringing professional baseball back to Atlantic City, NJ, and help ignite a new era of sports and community pride.
