Bring Pickleball Courts to McAllen at Las Palmas Community center & Bill Schupp Park
The Issue
We, the residents of McAllen, Texas, respectfully request that the City of McAllen immediately move forward with the development of dedicated pickleball courts at:
• Las Palmas Community Center (by repainting and converting existing space)
• Bill Schupp Park (as part of new construction plans)
We also request proper lighting at both locations to ensure safe and extended evening use for families and working residents.
Why This Matters
McAllen has one of the highest rates of diabetes and related health conditions in the region. Pickleball is a low-impact, accessible sport that:
• Helps regulate blood sugar levels
• Improves cardiovascular health
• Encourages weight management
• Supports mental wellness
• Is safe and enjoyable for all ages
This is not just about a sport — it’s about public health.
Pickleball brings together seniors, families, young adults, and children in a shared activity that builds stronger community connections. It is affordable, inclusive, and growing rapidly across Texas and the United States.
Many neighboring cities have already invested in pickleball infrastructure. McAllen residents deserve the same opportunity.
We are asking city leadership to prioritize:
Repainting and converting space at Las Palmas Community Center for pickleball courts
Including dedicated pickleball courts in the new construction at Bill Schupp Park
Installing lighting at both locations for safe evening play
Our goal is 2,000 signatures to demonstrate strong community support.
Healthy residents build a stronger McAllen.
Let’s invest in recreation, prevention, and community.
