The Issue

The Federal Railroad Administration has identified Amarillo as a potential stop on new long-distance passenger rail routes as part of a nationwide expansion study.

This is a rare opportunity to reconnect Amarillo to a national transportation network—linking our city to major destinations while strengthening regional and national connectivity.

Passenger rail would:

  1. Improve access to affordable, long-distance travel
  2.
Reduce congestion on highways and air travel
Support economic growth and tourism

  3. Provide a more accessible travel option for many individuals

Amarillo is uniquely positioned to benefit. With existing rail infrastructure already located downtown and close to major venues, a passenger station could bring visitors directly into the heart of the city—supporting local businesses and ongoing revitalization efforts.

Despite this opportunity, progress depends on public support and advocacy.
We are calling on local, state, and federal leaders to support passenger rail development and ensure Amarillo is included in future expansion plans.
