Bring ORZEYFUL (Oveporexton) to Canada

For Canadians living with narcolepsy type 1, an important new treatment has arrived, and it is now under review by Health Canada, but it is not yet available to Canadian patients.

ORZEYFUL™ (oveporexton) has received U.S. FDA approval for adults with narcolepsy type 1.

Narcolepsy type 1 is associated with the loss of orexin-producing neurons in the brain. Orexin plays a critical role in regulating wakefulness and sleep.

Most existing narcolepsy medications manage particular symptoms. Oveporexton represents a different approach: it is an orexin receptor agonist designed to act on the orexin system itself.

For people living with this lifelong neurological disorder, that distinction matters.

What we’re asking for

UPDATE: Oveporexton is now under review by Health Canada.

This is an important step forward for Canadians living with narcolepsy type 1 — but regulatory submission is only one step toward actual patient access.

We are now calling for a timely and rigorous Health Canada review of oveporexton, without unnecessary delays, while maintaining Canada’s standards for safety, efficacy and quality.

If authorized, we are asking Takeda Canada, health technology assessment organizations, public drug plans, private insurers and other Canadian stakeholders to work toward timely reimbursement and patient access, so Canadians are not left waiting unnecessarily after regulatory approval.

Our goal remains the same: Canadian patients should have timely access to advances in narcolepsy treatment. 

Why this matters

Narcolepsy is much more than simply “being tired.”

It can profoundly interfere with education, employment, driving, independence and everyday activities.

Canadian patients deserve access to advances in treatment alongside patients in other countries.

A person’s postal code shouldn’t determine whether they have the opportunity to benefit from advances in narcolepsy medicine.
