The Issue
To X, Elon Musk, and the X Trust & Safety Team:
We’re asking for something simple:
Please review the suspension of @nubcat and restore the original account if it is found to have been suspended in error.
This isn't a brand-new account, a spam network, or some anonymous profile that appeared overnight.
@nubcat is a 14-year-old internet art project.
The story goes back to February 2, 2012, when artist Leon Karssen drew the first blue cat while bored in class. What started as a simple drawing became a recognizable piece of internet culture that has existed for longer than many of today's major social-media accounts.
And people clearly care about it.
The related Instagram account @sillynubcat has approximately 1.56 million followers, with individual posts regularly receiving hundreds of thousands of likes.
On X, however, the original @nubcat account and related handles have repeatedly faced suspensions. Appeals have not produced a satisfactory resolution.
That is why we're asking X to take another look.
This isn't a demand for special treatment.
It's a request for a genuine human review.
The account's content is fundamentally simple: drawings of a blue cat, memes, and drawings in response to other users.
Even X itself has previously interacted with the art, and prominent accounts and companies have publicly called attention to the suspension. The response from the community has been clear: people wan I'mt Nubcat back.
When an account with more than a decade of history and a substantial audience disappears, users deserve to know that the decision was carefully reviewed and that an automated system, mass-reporting campaign, or mistaken enforcement action hasn't resulted in the loss of a legitimate creative account.
We're asking X to:
- Review the original @nubcat account and its suspension.
- Review the enforcement history of related Nubcat accounts where appropriate.
- Determine whether the suspension resulted from an actual policy violation or an enforcement error.
- Restore @nubcat if the account is found to be compliant.
- Provide a meaningful explanation of the decision to the account owner.
Nubcat isn't asking to be above the rules.
We're asking Nubcat to be subject to the same fair review that every legitimate creator deserves.
Fourteen years of internet history shouldn't disappear without a careful look.
Hundreds of millions of people have seen this little blue cat.
Millions have liked it.
And a huge community wants to see the original account return.
