Thank you for checking out my petition to reinstate what has for generations served as an educational beacon in our community - Morehead State University’s West Liberty campus. The history between West Liberty and MSU is a decades-long bond that ultimately resulted in three separate locations over the years as each facility had to upsize for the demand. Having a local campus had a tremendous impact on our community as it provided quality higher education conveniently located in the heart of West Liberty, allowing students to hold full-time jobs in town while still providing them the opportunity to work on their degrees. Not only did the local campus provide opportunity for Morgan County students, but it also granted students from surrounding counties (ex: Breathitt, Menifee, Wolfe, Magoffin) access to higher learning that was not available in their communities. The impact this service had on the surrounding area was monumental.

While the Digital Age has made education convenient for some, it has introduced more challenges for others for whom Internet is not readily accessible. Online learning can also be more challenging to those who benefit from hands-on learning in a classroom. Having a local MSU campus would open the door for potential students who feel left behind by the digital world as well as provide more options for learning based on individual needs and preferences. Furthermore, reinstating the MSU Center in West Liberty would create more employment opportunities for the area as well.
