The Issue

In Horry County, South Carolina, law enforcement officers, tasked with serving and protecting the community, have fallen short of their duties. The officers within the Horry County Police Department, and indeed across South Carolina, have been implicated in systematically covering up crimes, aiding and protecting those who prey on victims, and thereby breaching the civil rights of individuals. These actions not only violate the law but also compromise the trust and safety of the citizens they are sworn to serve.

Victims of crimes find themselves re-victimized, not just by the criminals, but by the very system meant to provide justice. Officers are known to intimidate, threaten, harass, and discredit those who dare to step forward. Families are torn apart, children suffer, and the cycle of abuse and corruption perpetuates unchecked. It is time for this to change.

We demand transparency and accountability within our police departments. Qualified immunity has long shielded officers from facing the consequences of their actions. This must end. We call for the implementation of accessible processes for citizens to report misconduct and request investigations, without fear of retaliation. Moreover, there must be mechanisms that allow for independent and external investigations, ensuring that all allegations are thoroughly examined by impartial entities.

The people of Horry County, and indeed all of South Carolina, deserve a police force that operates with integrity and honesty. It is essential that measures are taken to root out corrupt practices and hold individuals accountable for their actions. By signing this petition, you stand with us in demanding justice, accountability, and a safer community for all. Please add your voice to this urgent call for change.
