Hello,
You previously signed the petition supporting Rosie’s Law, and I wanted to share an important update.
The bill (HB4540) has officially moved out of the Rules Committee and is now before the House Judiciary Committee in the Illinois General Assembly.
The next committee hearing will take place March 19 in Springfield.
At this stage of the legislative process, committee members look closely at public support. One of the ways they see that support is through something called a witness slip.
A witness slip is simply a short online form that allows supporters to place their position on record for the hearing.
If you would like to support Rosie’s Law as it moves through committee for this upcoming hearing, you can file one here:
When filling it out, select:
Position: Proponent
Testimony: Record of Appearance Only
You do not need to attend the hearing. Filing the form simply places your support into the official legislative record for the committee.
Rosie’s story began as a personal loss. Over time it has grown into a broader effort to bring greater fairness and clarity to how companion animals are considered in custody disputes.
Thank you again for standing behind this effort and helping bring Rosie’s Law into the legislative process.
With appreciation,
Tameer Siddiqui, PsyD
Director, Rosie’s Law Initiative
