Katelyn Markham's life was taken from her at only 21 years old. She went missing in 2011 from her Fairfield, Ohio home. The crime has been covered up for years. Years after her disappearance, in 2013 her remains were found in Indiana. The sentencing for this case is July 18th, 2024. John Carter has pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. This plea deal holds a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison. Please help express to the judge that in this case, the maximum penalty must be fully held. Thank you.

This is a public impact statement in regards to the case of Katelyn Markham. This letter is posted publicly on change.org, for all concerned parties to express support and take action in the journey for justice for Katelyn Markham. Our goal is to express the hope that John Carter will be fully held accountable for the crime he has committed, which ultimately led to the death of Katelyn Markham. 

Katelyn Markham was reported missing only a few days shy of her 22nd birthday by John Carter. He was the last person to see her alive. Katelyn was a creative, inspiring, hard working young woman with an entire future ahead of her. She was on track to graduate from college where she was studying to pursue her passion in art. All of this was taken from her, by the senseless actions of John Carter. He took away her ability to spread joy and happiness to the world, in the form of her colorful inspirational art.

To have such a responsible, hard working young woman vanish from her own home is a very shocking headline. This is what was plastered all over social media, and news platforms in 2011. This chilling story was a reality we were all living in. There have been countless questions, fear and worry over this case for years. We have slowly found the truth, Katelyn Markham was missing, because that is what John Carter had wanted us to believe. The lies he has told have affected so many lives. Volunteers spent countless hours searching. Only years later were Katelyn Markham's remains finally recovered, in such a horrible, shocking state. As the searching ceased, John Carter's lies did not. He has taken all opportunities to manipulate this story and avoid responsibility. Now is the time for him to face the truth and stop hiding behind all the lies he has been selling for years.

This guilty plea is the first time John Carter can no longer lie to us and lead everyone in the wrong direction. We know his actions are what have caused all this shock and pain to the public. We now know with absolute certainty the person that is behind it all. John Carter has been able to live free all this time, all these years. This type of crime should not go without consequence. 

It is our belief that John Carter should be given the maximum penalty for his crime, 3 years.
